Marios Pavlou (b. 1989, Limassol, Cyprus) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice unfolds across moving image, installation, performance, sound, painting, and writing. Educated at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln, Pavlou has developed an interdisciplinary methodology grounded in experimentation, collaboration, and expanded forms of storytelling.

Working with fiction as both method and language, Pavlou constructs immersive visual and narrative environments where personal mythology, speculative imagery, ritual, and emotional landscapes converge. Their work explores themes of desire, identity, sexuality, memory, embodiment, and transformation, examining how intimate experiences intersect with broader social, historical, and geopolitical realities. Through layered forms of narration, performative gestures, and symbolic structures, Pavlou creates spaces where dream states and emotional experience become tools for reimagining contemporary existence.

Under the performative moniker Cievil Momo, Pavlou develops projects that oscillate between live performance, sound experimentation, spoken word, and installation. Music and poetry function as structural elements within the work, shaping atmospheres through rhythm, improvisation, repetition, and embodied presence. Collaboration remains central to their methodology, informing projects that merge visual art, performance, text, and collective forms of participation.

Recent research within Pavlou’s practice engages with symbolic systems and archetypes, psychoanalytic approaches to dreams and subconscious imagery, and the material poetics of water as a vessel for memory, intuition, and transformation. Their work frequently navigates the tension between vulnerability and theatricality, constructing Fictional worlds that remain deeply connected to lived emotional and political realities.

Pavlou’s work has been presented internationally through exhibitions, screenings, performances, festivals, and residencies at institutions including Haus der Kulturen der Welt, PACT Zollverein, Marres, Lothringer 13, Theater Münster, Burg Hülsho", NRW Forum, GOLD + BETON, Kunstarkaden München, Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, Museum Herakleidon, Chisenhale Gallery, and Lenbachhaus Museum, among others. They have also participated in festivals including Ruhrtriennale, Videonale, Art Explora Festival, Athens Digital Arts Festival, and Open House Festival. Alongside their artistic practice, Pavlou remains actively engaged in the contemporary art scene in Cyprus through collective initiatives, workshops, and collaborations with cultural institutions and independent platforms.
